The Sun in the Gloom

Julio Ramon Ribeyro seems to be at home, in the midst of the shadows that Jorge Deustua has discovered him in.

He has a gesture that is suspended between laughter and meditation, as if someone exposed his safe haven and caught him there, completely off guard.

Subdued by the bottles in the shelves, his head tilted, protected by the fragile dawn of his smile, Julio is as alive as he seldom has been, in these photographs. In silence, in opacity, there he lives comfortably in the quiet world of black-and-white images. He knows that life, as he understands it, does not belong to those who stare down at it head-on but rather to those who dig deep into its corners and intersections.

He is himself, forever.
